Many parents come to therapy feeling concerned, overwhelmed, or at a loss – often because their child is acting out, withdrawing, melting down, or just not responding to the things that “should” work.
It’s incredibly common to seek counselling for your child in the hope that someone can help “fix” the behaviour. This makes perfect sense. You love your child. You want them to thrive. And you want things to feel calmer at home.
But here’s what the research tells us: therapy that focuses only on changing the child’s behaviour – without understanding the relationship or the deeper needs beneath the behaviour – rarely brings long-term change.
What makes a real difference is relationship.
What shifts behaviour is connection.
What helps children grow is feeling safe, seen, and understood.
The behaviour you’re seeing is often a form of communication – a signal that something feels too big, too hard, or too overwhelming for your child to express in words.
When we can pause and look beneath the surface, we can begin to understand what your child is really needing – and how you, as their most important person, can support them.
That’s where I come in.
Whether it’s through Filial Therapy (where I teach you how to use therapeutic play with your child), parent coaching, or support in navigating neurodivergence, my approach always centres on empowering you with tools, insight, and confidence – while holding space for your own experiences, too.
Our Parenting Services
Navigating Neurodivergence
Support for parents of Autistic, ADHD, or potentially neurodivergent children.
Parenting often comes with a set of expectations about how family life will unfold. When you discover your child is neurodivergent, those expectations might shift—not because something is wrong, but because your child experiences the world in their own unique way.
Navigating Neurodivergence is about seeing your child through a new, affirming lens. It’s about shifting away from outdated, compliance-based parenting models and towards connection, understanding, and respect for your child’s unique way of being.
This space supports you as much as your child—offering gentle guidance without adding pressure, and helping you reconnect with your intuition, wellbeing, and capacity to parent in ways that feel sustainable, compassionate, and aligned with your values.
Ideal for:
- Parents of autistic and neurodivergent children
- Caregivers feeling overwhelmed by conflicting advice
- Families seeking a low-demand, needs-based, respectful approach
- Those wanting to unlearn behavioural compliance models
- Anyone wanting to parent more in alignment with their values
Filial Therapy / Child-Parent Relationship Sessions
Strengthening your relationship through play.
Filial Therapy (also known as Child-Parent Relationship Therapy or CPRT) is a powerful, evidence-based approach that helps parents and caregivers strengthen attachment, build emotional attunement, and develop more confident, connected relationships with their children.
Rather than working directly with your child, I work with you to teach you therapeutic play skills, support emotional regulation, and deepen your understanding of your child’s needs. This approach is particularly useful for children who have experienced stress, anxiety, trauma, or difficulties expressing emotion – and for parents wanting to feel more connected and effective.
Filial Therapy is grounded in decades of research, including the work of Drs. Garry Landreth and Sue Bratton. Studies show that it significantly improves child behaviour, strengthens parent-child relationships, and reduces parental stress. It's also incredibly empowering – you're not just learning about your child, you're actively engaging with them in ways that foster healing and growth.
Ideal for:
-
Parents of children aged 3–12
-
Families with children experiencing disconnection, emotional struggles, or difficult transitions
-
Parents who want to build stronger bonds through play and presence.
General Parenting Support
Therapeutic conversations when you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure.
Parenting doesn’t come with a manual – and even when you're doing your very best, it can still feel overwhelming, confusing, or exhausting. You might be dealing with frequent meltdowns, sibling conflict, big emotions, or just feeling unsure how to respond when your child is anxious, angry, or shutting down.
Sometimes you just need a place to pause, make sense of what’s happening, and regain your footing.
In our sessions, I offer a space where you can:
-
Reflect on your child’s needs and behaviours with curiosity and compassion
-
Explore what’s developmentally appropriate and what's happening under the surface
-
Get practical strategies that align with your values and your child’s nervous system
-
Work through moments when you feel triggered, unsure, or like you’ve lost your parenting compass
-
Strengthen your confidence in your ability to attune, set boundaries, and nurture connection
This is not about “perfect parenting” – it’s about realistic, relationship-based parenting that makes space for both your child’s growth and your own.
I draw from attachment theory, neuroscience, neurodivergent-affirming practice, and over two decades of experience walking alongside families. Whether you’re parenting a strong-willed child, a child who seems anxious or emotionally sensitive, or just need to regroup during a tough stage, you’re welcome here.
I offer space for:
-
Reflecting on parenting values
-
Support during tough stages (toddlerhood, tween years, adolescence)
-
Navigating separation, blended families, or parenting with another caregiver
- Supporting grandparents, foster parents and other caregivers welcoming children into their home
These sessions can be one-off consultations or ongoing, depending on your needs.
